The CUBIC "Focal Plane"

This photo shows the CUBIC "focal plane" in the capable hands of our master technician, Mr. Mark Catalano. (This is not truly a focal plane, because CUBIC has no focussing optics; perhaps "detector assembly" would be a more accurate name.) The two CCDs can be seen through the holes in the focal plane assembly (the black rectangles). The brown rectangles just to the outside of the CCDs are framestore masks designed to prevent X-rays from reaching the framestore portion of the chip during readout. Optical/UV blocking filters are mounted on top of this assembly to prevent contamination by optical or UV light.
