John A. Nousek, Co-Investigator

John A. Nousek received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1979, where he participated in the development and flight of a series of sounding rocket experiments studying the diffuse soft X-ray background. From 1978 to 1981 he was a Research Fellow at Caltech, where he studied X-ray emission from stellar and binary sources as well as the diffuse X-ray background, based on data from the HEAO-1 A-2 experiment and sounding rocket flights. Since 1981 he has been a member of the faculty of the Penn State Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics. He led the Penn State effort for an Aries sounding rocket launch in 1986, and participated in the SN1987A sounding rocket campaign in 1987 and 1988. He is the PSU Lead Co-Investigator on the ACIS experiment, and has been a PI on Einstein, IRAS, and IUE proposals. He is also a member of the ASCA Science Working Group and is leading the software algorithm development for the CCD instrument on that mission.
