Several programs have been written to facilitate target planning.
Program upsource2 reads a list of sources and
calculates which sources are within
the part of the sky visible to the CUBIC instrument on a given date,
given the SAC-B
pointing restrictions (Z axis within
of Sun). Program
upsource3 is similar, but sorts output by source instead of by date:
it produces a list of dates for which each source can be viewed.
Program upsource_vis produces similar output in a format needed
by sourcevis.
Program sourcevis reads orbital data and calculates source visibility,
taking into account the position of the satellite with respect to the
Earth, South Atlantic Anomaly, etc. It produces a file listing good
data times for each source. Program sourcevis_ucl generates the
same information in a format useable by uclgen, which generates
CUBIC command files.
There are also several IDL routines that are useful for target planning. IDL program cubic_vis plots the CUBIC visibility zone for a given date on an Aitoff projection sky map (similar to upsource, but graphical). Other routines are under development.
