Image of the Dark Matter density

A projection of the dark matter density of the million solar mass
proto-galaxy within which the first star is formed. The image is
roughly 300 parsec (=1000 light years across). A number of satelite DM
clumps that are in the process of merging with larger one can be
seen. The substructure seen is typical for very hig resolution N-body
simulations. With more than a million particles within the halo this
is one of the highest resolution DM simulations ever done. The big
difference to other simulations however is that we not only follow DM
but also gas at even much greater mass and spatial resolution.
