Welcome / Bienvenidos

Hello everybody and welcome to my Universe! My name is Emily Alicea-Muñoz and I am a doctoral candidate in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at Penn State University. I'm also a coop student in the Gravitational Astrophysics Laboratory at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. Before this I was an undergraduate in the Department of Physics at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, where I got a B.S. in Physics in 2003.

Hello :-)

My research focuses on massive black hole (MBH) mergers as probes of structure formation in the early universe. My phenomenological models of MBH mergers can be used to determine how well LISA observations will be able to enhance our understanding of the universe at high redshifts. My thesis advisor is Cole Miller (University of Maryland), with Joan Centrella (NASA/GSFC) and Steinn Sigurðsson (PSU) as co-supervisors. For more information, visit my Research pages.

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, I am an only child, and I have two last names. I like watching TV, reading blogs, playing video games, and designing websites. I live in Maryland with my fiance John and his two kitties, Sampson and Jeremy. I've loved astronomy since I was eight years old, and I was a math-and-science nerd all through school (still am!). If you want to learn more about me, my interests, my two last names, etc, then head on over to the Personal pages.

This website is partly a professional website and partly a personal website. Every page is W3C compliant and therefore viewable with pretty much any browser on any operating system. The website is currently on Version 4.0, with many changes from the previous version, so some pages may have been moved around and/or renamed (although I tried my best to minimize this effect to prevent confusion). All changes and additions to the website, along with new info on what's going on in my life, will be posted in the Update Archive, which is like my pseudo-blog. Additionally, each page of the website (except for the pseudo-blog) now has a "Last Updated" date stamp at the bottom-right of the page, indicating the date when it was most recently revised.

To explore the rest of the website just follow the links on the navigation bar on the left, or the ones at the bottom of each page, or the ones that indicate the current path. You can also take a look at the Site Map if you need to find a specific page in particular. Finally, feel free to contact me if you have any comments or feedback about anything in the website (e.g., found a typo, a dead link, etc).

Most recent website update (Update Archive): 14 August 2008
